Though personal reputation remains important, the Dark Knights base one's standing within the Knighthood solely on military rank. A Talon Knight-Officer outranks common Knights, even those of a superior reputation category. A Wing Subcommander outranks all of his subordinates, as well as common Knights and junior officers from other Wings, and so on. The only exception are Adjudicators of the Code who enjoy special privileges of this unique rank when sitting in judgment on a case.
Nerakan Military Structure is historically based on the premise that the only members in a Nerakan force are also members of the Knighthood. Increased use of both Army Regulars and Mercenary forces has resulted in some significant changes in the structure. Each subgrouping below can consist of purely Knights, a mix of Knights and non-Knights, or purely non-Knights. Any Knight will always outrank any non-Knight. In a case where an entire mercenary company is hired intact, such as the Hand of Argon, or where massed forces of monstrous units are employed, they maintain whatever structure they previously had, and are simply assigned tasks as if they were a compgroup.
