Senior Unix Systems Administrator and Shift Manager
- Managed a team of junior systems administrators and computer operators. This department was responsible for administration and support for a global network of hundreds of Sun Solaris Unix
systems, providing high-value real-time financial data to high profile financial and governmental clients.
- Planned, created, and supported a complex Autosys-scheduled job management task structure, spanning thousands of interdependent time-critical daily tasks spread out over dozens of machines.
Resulted in higher level of reliability and lower cost than the previous infrastructure.
- Operated in an ITIL (IT Best Practices) structured incident/problem management environment, including global escalation procedures across several tiers of upper level support and development,
resulting in faster recovery time and reduced client impact from any server outages or software disruptions.
- Designated subject matter expert on Unix-related system and software queries. Provided ongoing level three support to several outside departments, resulting in quick solutions and considerable cost
savings compared to external service contracts.
- Designed and implemented new email infrastructure to handle all internal and external Unix email for multiple domains. Offered system redundancy, scalability, historical capacity trending,
interoperability with Microsoft Exchange servers, anti-spam and anti-virus protection.
- Scheduled multiple shifts, conducted performance reviews, established objectives and implemented workload planning improving hours and quality of operations coverage.
- Trained support staff on new support software and procedures as the group gained additional product responsibilities.
