红茶 (hong cha) red tea This tea is most common called "Black Tea" in English, however in Chinese it's called "Red Tea". This creates a little confusion. This is NOT rooibos, the herbal tisane from South Africa. For a Red Tea, the tea leaves are allowed to completely oxidize. Red tea is the most common form of tea in western countries. Red teas can range from being very smooth, sweet and chocolaty, to being very smokey, and spicey. This is alsd the standard tea to make chai with. Westerns who are new to Chinese teas will find these teas to be the most familiar.
