overview
seals of similar size is an ongoing project initiated and perpetuated by illium. while often mistaken for a 'band', s.o.s.s. is in reality a consortium of artists. the main focus of the project is music, but it is not limited to just music. all forms of artists are welcome to be part of the project. we feel that the goal of art is communication/expression of individual thought, and that limiting yourself to a single medium such as sound, canvas, or paper only interferes with this goal. we also feel that the greatest beauty comes from combined effort and more importantly that the greatest comprehension comes from understanding, accepting, and integrating a variety of different viewpoints. this project is an attempt to integrate as many different viewpoints and artistic formats as possible to create a complete sensory experience.
who is s.o.s.s.?
so far, it has mainly been the efforts of illium with the occasional input of a few others (the pandering monkey, Lucidenial, anal dave, obi-juan, andy watson, spooner, TECHy, sven). illium programs digitial music, sings and plays various live instruments, writes lyrics, generates digital images, and designed this web page. the pandering monkey and Lucidenial generate hand-drawn and digital images and help with lyric writing. anal dave plays the digerdido and the sine wave generator, sings, writes lyrics, and has been a great help in promotion of the project. obi-juan scratches the reel-to-reel tape deck. andy watson plays the electric guitar. spooner is the some-times groove consultant. hello there... as usual, i've been neglecting this project. (: there have been a few new releases over the past few months.. notably the tracks rythym is bondage, off peak, my dark cave, and deep slow. eventually i will get around to fleshing out a new album possibly featuring some of those tracks. also, a while back i released a couple of live recordings of myself and an acoustic guitar. i did a version of rapture and something about electrons. these are rather poor quality, but show a different side to the music. there has been little development on the project recently, as most of my efforts have been focused on the higher the fewer. we're still recording and it may be a while before our first release is available. the higher the fewer is a bit of a crossover into s.o.s.s. since i am programming all the drums, bass, and synths, as well as playing guitar. for more info go to: http://www.unsuave.com/~illium/thtf

hmm.. another lengthy silence from your venerable webmaster and musican has ended. after going through a series of issues regarding computer stablity, financial stablity, and motivation, my recording setup is once again functional. i have released a total of 6 albums through the mp3.com site and have joined up with a few other sites for mp3 file distribution and general promotion. those links are soss.iuma.com, and artists.traxinspace.com/soss. as always, if you wish to purchase a CD and don't have a credit card, just send cash, check, or money order to the address at the bottom of this page. prices are an even $6 per CD, please mention which CDs you want and be sure to include an e-mail address as well as a snail-mail address. also, keep an eye out for releases by illium's newest side project 'jennifer won't go out with me', which combines the creative efforts of both illium and his producer phaedrus. also coming soon is the long awaited first release of 'the higher the fewer' scheduled to come out later this year. thanks for your patience, and continued interest. if you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to e-mail me at illium@usa.net. i love getting mail!!

well, well.. it's been a while since i've updated this place. soss has gone through a variety of experiences since last update. in chronological order, i've finished moving in and setting up in the basement room, which i affectionately refer to as my pain cave.. (: i've written quite a bit of new stuff, and updated my recording setup so as to make some better quality recordings on the tracks that use vocals or other non-digital sources.. also i have purchased some new equipment.
another big development was my descision to put soss material on mp3.com. there are many .mp3s currently available and a CD for sale. if you're smart and patient, but not nice, you'll realize that ALL the tracks on the CD are available for download from mp3.com, so you really don't have to buy the CD.. but i didn't tell you that.. (:
now for the bad news. (: i've recently suffered a harddrive anomoly which may destroy most of the soss data stored there. this will completely annihilate everything i've done for the past year or so.. i've got everything before that backed up, BUT.. none of the new stuff. but there is a possibility that the data will not be lost. keep a watch here for updates on this situation. needless to say progress on all things seals has temporarily ground to a halt. this also means that you can no longer buy CDs from me directly, since i have no functional system with which to reproduce the CD..
i've also been spending a lot of time with my live project the flaming squirrels. which (pre-crash) used synth tracks in the background, so it could be considered about %30 seals... (: anyhow, that all for now. buy the CD!! it may be the last one for a long while..

much has been happening in the past few months! i got my hands on a CD burner and have produced a limited edition CD available to anyone interested. just get a blank CD-R, 60 minute tape, or $3 to illium for your very own copy. (if you can't afford to send a CD-R, tape, or $3, just ask him real nice, and i'll bet he'll give you one completely out of his own pocket...(especially since illium is not only the third person, but the first person here)) there has been a slighty chaotic influence on the project since illium has been forced to move into a tiny basement room at a friends house from his former spacious 2 bedroom flat. once he gets the studio set up and running again be prepared for many new releases! there are three new songs almost ready for release and three other albums planned (in the mastering phase currently).. all albums will be available in the same manner as the one previously described. also illium has been spending a great deal of time talking to record label, radio station, and nightclub types and may be being broadcast and performing in a city near you. (don't worry, even if s.o.s.s. gets signed and produced, the bootleg CDs will still be available for the same price and conditions.) also, illium is working on a joint project with his sister adrianna which will be displayed in the chicago area. this multi-media presentation will feature a musical track by illium and images and words by adrianna. contact adrianna at amelody@earthlink.net for more info.

this page officially released to the public! -- check the 'music' section for audio files in realaudio format. no shows are planned as of now, but watch for updates in the near future. things are slowing down a bit for s.o.s.s. due to the band called the higher the fewer that is eating large portions of illium's and Lucidenial's time.
