| EDUCATION | Engineering or something. I was out in industry for 3 years so have forgotten most of that stuff, but I'm slowly getting it all back. |
| CURRENT EDUCATION | PhD program at UC Santa Barbara. Moving ever so slowly. |
| EMPLOYER | UCSB. I'm a TA. Fear for the children. |
| MARITAL STATUS | Single. Available. Email Me (see above). I'm nice. I really am. |
| BIKE | 1996 Raleigh M-400 (Aluminum). Yes, I still ride that damn thing. The only upgrades have been pedals (twice) and, maybe, new brake pads. I forget, actually. I also bought a 2002 Giant OCR-1 road bike in summer 2003. I've put a bunch of miles on it, though not as many as i would have liked. |
| YEARS RIDING | Mountain: since 1994. Road: since 2003. |
| FAVORITE LOCAL TRAILS | Haven't really checked any out yet. The trail from my house to the beach is nice, though. On road, I dig San Marcos road. It's straight up the mountain and oh so fun. |
| BEST MOUNTAIN BIKING EXPERIENCE |
Once, while riding Mill Creek, we were doing a pretty steep downhill. There were loose rocks the size of baby heads all over the place causing me all sorts of trouble. I think I caught one of those baby heads wrong and lost balance. I stepped off and stopped. Fearing for my life (Ed is bigger than me), I stepped out of the way. I glanced back to see where Ed was and saw him coming down the hill. All of a sudden, his bike stopped and he went over the handlebars. He landed in a sitting position somewhere in front of his bike. I just about lost my balance from laughing. Of course, the slo-mo over-the-handlebars action is always fun. |
| WORST MOUNTAIN BIKING EXPERIENCE |
Back in June 2002 I did a little trick I like to call the "slam de cabeza." It hurt when I did it. It still hurt 2 months later. Luckily, it doesn't hurt anymore. -one of mike pauli's sand haikus:
